Drop On Recall

We are working hard on drop on recall. I am using barriers to try and avoid issues with creeping. My plan is to use multiple barriers and have already faded them from boards to leashes. Later I will switch to string. One thing I found this morning is that there is much more creep with a hard signal than a verbal signal. I also DO NOT drop him sometimes so he does not anticipate the drop.

I have not tried the barriers, but I know a lot of people who had good results with that and probably will do that with my next dog. One thing that helped Tigger get the idea of stopping and dropping was to toss or drop something noisy like keys (not throw it at him, but near him) to help get him out of "the zone" (running) and focus on dropping. Sometimes I would throw something fun like a toy he really liked and just let him go get it and end the exercise there.
